Pavel Mašek

After a nearly twenty-year artistic career in the performative sector (most notably with Ultima Vez / Wim Vandekeybus in Brussels), Pavel had realized that there was time for a change. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student under Daniel Sosna’s supervision at the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. His doctoral project is based on ethnographic research at an auto salvage yard. He works as a researcher for the Department of Ecological Anthropology, Institute of Ethnology, Czech Academy of Sciences. In 2018, Pavel received a doctoral scholarship from the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Department ‘Resilience and Transformation in Eurasia,’ director – Chris Hann). His research interests are economic anthropology, ecological anthropology, informality, materiality, morality and ethics, the social life of things, and waste.
